Choosing the Right Wreath Size for Your Front Door
The most common regret is a wreath that is too small. Here is how to size one correctly for a standard, double, or oversized entry.
Wreath size is measured across the widest point, including the florals and ribbon — not just the base form. A 24-inch base with generous mesh and a large bow can read as 28 to 30 inches on the door, which is why measuring the finished piece matters.
Standard 36-inch door
A finished wreath between 22 and 26 inches looks balanced. Anything under 18 inches disappears from the curb.
Double doors
Two matching wreaths in the 20 to 24 inch range beat one oversized wreath in the center — a single wreath spanning the seam prevents you from opening one door on its own.
Oversized or 42-inch entries
Go 28 inches or larger. Tall, narrow entries also take a vertical swag or a teardrop shape well, which reads as intentional rather than undersized.
Interior doors, windows, and mantels
- Interior doors: 14 to 18 inches.
- Kitchen cabinets and windows: 10 to 14 inches.
- Above a mantel: measure the firebox width and aim for roughly half of it.
